WHAT IS IRON WATER?
Iron occurs naturally in soil, sediments, and groundwater and can be found in many types of rocks. Iron can be present in water in two forms; the soluble ferrous iron or the insoluble ferric iron. Water containing ferrous iron is clear and colourless, and when exposed to air the water turns cloudy causing a reddish-brown precipitate of ferric iron appears.
EFFECTS OF IRON WATER ON YOUR HEALTH
A low level of iron in water does not cause an issue. When the iron level in your water is high, you will face serious health problems.
Very few only know that iron in drinking water can damage our inner body parts like liver, heart, and pancreas. Finally, it will become a disease called Hemochromatosis.
EFFECTS OF IRON WATER ON TAP FITTINGS OF YOUR HOME
Definitely, every homeowner can find the quality of water supplied through your tapes and its drawbacks. Iron can cause rusty water, leaving black, orange or red stains on your plumbing fixtures, toilets, and different surfaces.
IRON WATER PURIFIER
The main issue against water use is hardness. Next to hardness, the secondary problem is the presence of iron in water that is faced by consumers and water treatment professionals. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) for iron and manganese is 0.3 mg/l and 0.05 mg/l, respectively. Iron and manganese can sometimes exceed the recommended maximum contamination levels, resulting in discoloured water, washing and plumbing equipment.
Small amounts of iron are commonly found in water, as there is a large amount of iron in the soil and iron is obtained from corrosive water pipes. Cloth washed with excess iron will turn a colour brown. The taste of tea and coffee can be affected by iron. Manganese produces brown particles in washed clothing and black particles in iron, and affects the flavour of beverages, including coffee and tea.
The well water from the pipe is usually clear and colourless. However, if water is allowed to come into contact with a sink or bathtub with stainless, dissolved iron or in a cooking water container, the iron will combine with oxygen to form red and brown particles and also known as rust. Manganese causes brown-black particles. These unwanted particles give a metallic taste to water or food.
The stains caused by iron and manganese in your appliances, fabrics, fixtures, and dishes cannot be vanished by soap or detergents. Bleaches and alkaline builders could not remove the stains and make them even worse. If the iron deposits or build up stays in your pressure tanks, water heaters, and pipelines, it may affect the quantity of water supply by reducing the pressure of the water. Generally, iron and manganese removal is not an easy thing. This is primarily due to the fact that iron can be present in many forms, and a special method of removal is required for each type.
